Life of “The Baron”

Forty-Eighth Street
One of New York’s little ‘melting pots’
Almost everybody in the block knows,
Knows “The Baron” and his stories’

Chauffeurs and mechanics came in,
Sat down and listened,
They all knew him and had heard the stories before,
Prodding him from time to time when he left out details

“The time I was in Australia,
Zined on da steamer Rezalute under Captain Crooser for a drip around da voorld,”
Depression broke out.
Took a whale boat to Soud Africa.”

Sailed the seven seas,
A turbine engineer,
Came home and found “a colored fella laid in my bed,”
Divorced his wife,
Now collecting rags, metal, paper for a junk dealer.
